Mr Oliver Dale
BMBS BSc FRCS PhD
Consultant ENT, Head & Neck and Thyroid Surgeon
I am a Consultant ENT, Head & Neck and Thyroid Surgeon at University Hospitals Bristol. I treat a full range of ear, nose and throat problems in adults and children. I have a specialist practice in head and neck surgery, which includes the treatment of neck and thyroid lumps, as well as voice and swallowing problems, throat cancer and salivary gland disorders.
I also have a special interest in the treatment of nose and sinus problems, including endoscopic sinus surgery for sinusitis, and septoplasty and turbinate surgery for nasal blockage.

I completed my specialist training in ENT surgery in Bristol and Oxford, before undertaking an international fellowship in Australia, where I had the opportunity to work with world leading experts in the field of advanced head & neck cancer and robotic surgery.
I am a core member of the Head & Neck and Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team at University Hospitals Bristol, which provides rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment for people with thyroid and head and neck cancer. I also work closely with the Neurosurgical team at Southmead Hospital in Bristol to treat adults and children with tumours of the nose, sinuses and skull base.
I have a strong interest in research, and was awarded a PhD for my work into head & neck cancer biology in 2016. I have presented my research at national and international meetings, and in 2015 was awarded the scientific prize at the annual meeting of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists.

I am actively involved in clinical trials, and have received national awards including the Margaret Witt Scholarship for clinical excellence and the Modi Surgical Research Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons.
As part of my role as a consultant ENT surgeon, I work closely with colleagues in speech and language therapy, dietetics, audiology, paediatrics and anaesthetics to provide a multidisciplinary approach the care of my patients.
I am actively involved in postgraduate surgical training, and supervise surgical trainees at University Hospitals Bristol. I am also involved in medical education at a more junior level, and authored the ear, nose and throat component of the undergraduate medical syllabus for students at the University of Bristol.

I work at University Hospitals Bristol, which includes St Michael’s Hospital, The Bristol Royal Infirmary, and the Bristol Children’s Hospital. I also work privately at The Bristol Nuffield Hospital and the Spire Hospital in Bristol.
